In the interdisciplinary project "CHINA SERIES" by the Swiss artist Julian Vogel (*1990), contemporary performance, installation, circus and dance combine to form a multi-layered whole. Julian Vogel sees the ongoing series of works as a constantly growing research laboratory. His starting point is the diabolo, which he masters perfectly as a juggler. But the artist robs the diabolo of its original form or materiality by forming countless new diabolos, not from plastic but from fragile ceramics, found crockery, for example. The deconstruction and reconstruction of the classical juggling object thus become central. The fragility associated with the material is intensified by the fleeting form of performance, which Julian Vogel chooses for the most part as his artistic expression.
The audience, however, becomes an important point of reference, both viewer and choreographer. With their presence, they insert themselves into the transience of object and situation. "CHINA SERIES" consists of different parts - videos, performances and installations - each of which stands on its own, but which relate to each other in many ways in terms of content and form. For his presence throughout the cirqu' festival and in the context of his exhibition at Forum Schlossplatz, Julian Vogel is decisively developing the series further.
