Following our tenth anniversary in 2025, we are now looking forward to the next edition:
From 10 to 20 June 2027, cirqu’ will once again take over the whole city – in theatres, museums, the circus big top and in the open air.
The programme will be published in spring 2027, and advance ticket sales will begin at the same time.
Every 2 years, Aarau transforms in June for 10 days into something extraordinary – everywhere in the city, in the Alte Reithalle, in the museums and theaters, under the circus big top or in the open air, sometimes in a small circle, often right in the middle of everyone.
Playful and cheerful, profound and thought-provoking, entertaining or patient, sometimes dizzying, humorous or provocative. Ten-minute productions find their place just as much as performances that stretch over hours or even days.
Productions for which you would otherwise have to travel to the big cities stand alongside scenic gems; experimental formats alongside entertainment for the whole family; plays that address socio-political issues alongside impressive artistry; the next generation of circus artists alongside performers with decades of experience. cirqu' shows what is possible today on stage, in a tent, in a museum or outdoors – and all of this right in the heart of Aarau.

When mysterious structures begin to appear in unusual places around Aarau, when circus tents start to transform the city centre, and when artists speaking different languages begin wandering through the streets, one thing is clear: cirqu’ is back!
The next edition of cirqu’ will take place from the 10th to the 20th of June 2027.
Aarau has been selected as Switzerland’s Capital of Culture 2030, prevailing over the competing candidates Thun, Bellinzona and Lugano.
Alongside Theater Basel, Schauspielhaus Zürich and Kaserne Basel, the cirqu’ Festival was selected by Swiss public broadcaster SRF as one of the theatre highlights of 2025.
From June 12 to 22, the tenth edition of cirqu’ took place, attracting over 11'500 spectators to the city – more than ever before. This marks an increase of nearly 30%. The anniversary edition impressed with top-class productions and an unforgettable festival atmosphere. Most shows were sold out.

At every festival we need some volunteers who support us. in the set-up of tents or other structures, in little promotional activities, for crowd control and many other things.
In return, we offer insights into an international circus festival, free tickets, a T-shirt, food and many encounters.
